Instructions to Authors
Zoological Records and Reviews (ZRR) welcomes the submission of original and high-quality manuscripts that contribute to the advancement of zoology and related biological sciences. Authors are requested to carefully follow the guidelines below to ensure a smooth review and publication process.
1. Scope of the Journal
The journal publishes original research articles, review papers, short communications, case studies, and taxonomic revisions in zoology, animal biology, ecology, taxonomy, evolution, and allied disciplines. See the journal's Scope of the Journal page for full subject coverage.
2. Manuscript Preparation
- Manuscripts must be written in clear and concise English.
- The document should be prepared in MS Word format.
- Use standard fonts (e.g., Times New Roman, 12 pt) with 1.5 or double line spacing.
- Pages should be numbered consecutively.
- Provide an ORCID iD for the corresponding author (and other authors, where possible).
Structure of the Manuscript:
- Title Page (Title, Author(s), Affiliation(s), Corresponding Author details)
- Abstract (150–300 words)
- Keywords (4–6 keywords)
- Introduction
- Materials and Methods
- Results
- Discussion
- Conclusion
- Acknowledgments (if any)
- References
3. Figures and Tables
- Figures and tables should be clearly labeled and cited in the text.
- Provide high-resolution images (JPEG/PNG formats).
- Each table and figure must have a descriptive caption.
4. References
- Authors should follow a consistent citation style (e.g., APA, Harvard, or journal-specific format).
- All references cited in the text must be listed in the reference section.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of all citations.
5. Ethical Guidelines
- Manuscripts must be original and not under consideration elsewhere.
- Authors must avoid plagiarism, data fabrication, and duplication.
- Proper acknowledgment of sources is mandatory.
- Studies involving animals must comply with applicable ethical guidelines and regulatory requirements, and the manuscript must state the approving body and approval reference (e.g., institutional animal care and use committee approval).
- Manuscripts proposing new taxonomic names must comply with the ICZN and include the relevant ZooBank registration and LSID, per the journal's Scope of the Journal and Taxonomic and Nomenclatural Standards.
6. Required Statements
Every submission must include:
- A Conflict of Interest / Competing Interests statement
- A Data Availability Statement
- A Funding statement, disclosing all sources of financial support
- An Ethical Approval statement, where applicable
7. Submission Process
- Manuscripts should be submitted via the journal's official submission system.
- A cover letter must be included with the submission, stating the significance of the work and confirming originality.
8. Peer Review
- All submissions undergo double-blind peer review by a minimum of two independent reviewers with relevant subject-matter expertise.
- The typical time from submission to first editorial decision is 12–14 weeks.
- Authors may be required to revise their manuscripts based on reviewer comments.
9. Article Processing and Publication
- Upon acceptance, manuscripts will proceed to copyediting and proofreading.
- Authors will receive proofs for final approval before publication.
- The journal does not charge any Article Processing Charge (APC) or submission fee.
10. Copyright and Licensing
Authors retain copyright of their published work. All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0); no copyright transfer agreement is required. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission for any third-party copyrighted material used in the manuscript that is not their own original work.
