Because Zoological Records and Reviews (ZRR) publishes all content under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), authors already have broad, standing permission to deposit and share their published work — no separate request or embargo period is required.

Authors may, at any time:

• Deposit the submitted version (preprint), accepted version (postprint), and the final published version of their article in an institutional repository, subject repository (e.g., bioRxiv), or personal/departmental website.
• Share their published article on academic networking sites, professional repositories, or their own website.
• Make their article available in any repository required by their funding body or institution, in compliance with funder open-access mandates.

Conditions

• The original publication in Zoological Records and Reviews must be clearly cited, including a link to the published version on the journal's website where possible.
• No embargo period applies — the final published version may be deposited immediately upon publication.

Recommended Repositories

While authors may deposit in any repository of their choosing, ZRR recommends depositing in a recognized institutional or subject repository (such as an author's university repository, or discipline-specific archives) to maximize long-term discoverability, consistent with the practices described in the SHERPA/RoMEO (Open Policy Finder) directory of publisher self-archiving policies.

This Self-Archiving Policy applies to author copies deposited independently of the journal, and operates alongside — but separately from — ZRR's own Archiving Policy, which describes the journal's official preservation of its published archive through the PKP Preservation Network.
