Shigeru Kuratani, RIKEN Center for Biosystems Dynamics Research (BDR), Japan

New Content Item (1)Shigeru Kuratani received his M.S. and Ph.D. from the Department of Zoology at Kyoto University. He spent the period from 1988 to 1991 working in experimental embryology in the Department of Anatomy at the Medical College of Georgia before moving to the Biochemistry Department, Baylor College of Medicine, where he focused on molecular embryological research. He returned to Japan in 1994 to take a position as associate professor at the Institute of Medical Embryology and Genetics in the Kumamoto University School of Medicine. He moved to Okayama University to assume a professorship in the Department of Biology in 1997, where he remained until he was appointed team leader at the CDB in 2001. He was appointed Group Director at CDB from 2005 to 2014, Chief Scientist at RIKEN from 2014 to 2024. Since 2024, he is Senior Visiting Scientist, RIKEN BDR.

Takema Fukatsu, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, Japan

New Content Item (1)Takema Fukatsu received his M.S. and Ph.D. from the Department of Zoology of the University of Tokyo, Japan. Since 1995, he has been working at National Institute of Bioscience and Human-Technology (NIBH), Tsukuba, Japan, which has been reorganized and renamed, now being National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Tsukuba, Japan. Currently he is Prime Senior Researcher at the Molecular Biosystems Research Institute of AIST. Concurrently, he is Professor at the Graduate School of Life and Environmental Sciences of the University of Tsukuba since 2011, and also Professor at the Department of Biological Sciences of the University of Tokyo since 2013. He has strong background in evolutionary biology, entomology and microbiology, mainly working on insect-microbe symbiotic associations. 

Tatsuya Hirasawa, Department of Earth and Planetary Science, Graduate School of Science, The University of Tokyo, Japan

New Content Item (1)Tatsuya Hirasawa received his M.S. and Ph.D. in paleontology from the Department of Earth and Planetary Science at the University of Tokyo. He spent the period from 2010 to 2020 working in evolutionary developmental biology at the RIKEN Center for Developmental Biology, where he conducted studies in comparative and experimental embryology at cellular and molecular levels. He took a position as associate professor at the Department of Earth and Planetary Science at the University of Tokyo in 2020, where he has promoted an integration of paleontology and evolutionary developmental biology.
